How to Join the Group

We are accepting students and researchers who are interested in and enthusiastic about programming languages.

Undergrads

We accept the senior students at the Department of Mathematical and Computing Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Graduate students

We welcome applications from students holding a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degrees for pursuing the master’s and Ph.D. degrees at the Department of Mathematical and Computing Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Prospective applicants must contact with Hidehiko Masuhara or Youyou Cong, both of them can serve as a supervisor, before applications. They are advised to send an email with a research plan and a transcript. Applicants should also consider the admission types. Based on the mail, they will be invited to an interview.

Admission: Applicants must pass one of the following admission processes.

  • International Graduate Program (A): Our department does not participate in this program now.
  • International Graduate Program (C): The program offers English based curriculum for Master’s and Ph.D. degrees. Applicants must pass an interview-based selection process.  Application periods are (1) from August to October and (2) from January to April for the program beginning (1) April and (2) September of next year, respectively.  Details can be found at the Program’s page.
  • (Regular) Master’s course.  Prospected students have to apply and to take the entrance exam in August for the programs beginning on September of the same year or April of the next year. The application period is mid June. Applicants must be able to read examination problems written in Japanese. Details can be found at the university’s page.
  • (Regular) Ph.D. course. Prospected students are admitted based on their research during their master courses. The application period is July (for the course beginning from October) and January (for the course beginning from April).  Details can be found the University’s page.
  • MEXT Scholarship: the Ministry of Education (MEXT) offers scholarship for international students, which can be applied to the Embassy of Japan in the applicant’s home country. When the applicant is “recommended” by the embassy, he/she will submit institutions and supervisors to enroll, which is treated as a different admission process. Details can be found in the university’s page.

Note: almost all the ways of admission require to submit a score of an English Proficiency Test. Prospected students should take one of those tests in advance.

Short-term Visiting Students

We are hosting international students who are willing to conduct research related to our group. Please take a look at the page at the university for details.

Research Students

We are not accepting research students (except for the cases required by scholarships). Interested students are recommended to consider taking one of the entrance exams for graduate courses.

Post-docs

We accept post-docs who are funded by JSPS fellowship. This needs in-advance grant application from the applicant’s side. Please consult the JSPS’ page for detail.
